Hair extensions originated in the 1980s, but were low in quality and high in cost, and were given up on until few years ago. Their popularity has soared because celebrities have started to use them.
Hair extensions are strands of hair that can be attached to your natural hair or scalp; they help add to the thickness of your hair or give you more length.
Hair extension come in two types, synthetic and human hair. As you would imagine the human type is more expensive, but is more natural looking. Your hair extensions can be pre-colored, pre-highlighted or pre-permed. Temporary hair extensions, such as clip-ins are good for about 6 or 8 weeks, before they need to be re-applied. Hair extensions referred to as permanent could last up to 4 months. Re-attaching is periodically necessary because our natural hair continues to grow and you'll need to re-adjust and refresh your hair’s appearance.
Strands are glued or tiny copper tubes placed to attach your extensions. Some extensions are also clipped in place. others are woven into your existing hair. The advantage to have micro links placed is there is no need for chemicals or heat to be used. Those who may have sensitive skin will definitely want go with this type of attachment method.
